PILGRIMAGE TO THESSALONIKI, GREECE IS SPIRITUALLY FULFILLING -EXECUTIVE SECRETARY EDO STATE CPWB

The Secretary, Edo state Pilgrim Welfare Board, Sir Patrick Ihayere described pilgrimage to Thessaloniki as spiritually fulfilling. He stated this in Thessaloniki, Greeece after a one day pilgrimage exercise in the ancient city.

Mr Ihayere further described his  experience as " a new window into our pilgrimage experience".He explained that the experience had lifted the spirits of the Edo pilgrims most of whom were in Thessaloniki for the first time.He added that the Edo pilgrims were all happy for this unique spiritual experience.

The Executive Secretary also commended the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission for the effective organisation of the pilgrimage in the area of hotel accommodation and general logistics.According to him,"there is a mark improvement compared to the last time experience in Athens, Greeece",He suggested that the Commission should explore more Holy sites in Greeece to give the pilgrims more opportunities.

The pilgrims were also in Rome where they performed their pilgrimage exercise which the Executive Secretary described thus:"one day Greeece, one day Rome, beautiful experience"

About 111 pilgrims from Edo state performed pilgrimage in Thessaloniki, Greece and Rome.Others are pilgrims from FCT, Kwara, Kaduna,Yobe, Ondo and Ekiti.

 

The pilgrims while in Thessaloniki visited the relics of Apostle Paul where he had his missionary journey.They also visited Saint Paul"s Catholic Church where prayers were offered for Nigeria and the success of this year,s pilgrimage.

The pilgrims while in Rome also visited the Church of Basilica otherwise called Saint Peter's Basilica. in the Vatican City, the biggest Catholic Church in the world, where thousands of Catholic faithful gather at Saint Peter"s square every wednesday for Papal audience.
