THE NUMBER OF SELF SPONSORED PILGRIMS FROM EDO STATE INCREASES EVERY YEAR--CHAIRMAN EDO STATE CPWB
The Chairman of Edo State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, Bishop Peter Imasuen has said that the number of self sponsored pilgrims from Edo State would continue to increase yearly.He stated this in Galilee at the on going pilgrimage exercise in Israel.According to him",last year about 88 self sponsored pilgrims participated in the pilgrimage exercise and this year the number of pilgrims increased to 118''
The increase according to the Chairman, who is also the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN Edo State was due to effective sensitization campaign centred on adding value to the entire pilgrimage exercise.He affirmed that because pilgrims who had visited Israel from the state returned with testimonies,it made it convincing to get more number of intending pilgrims to key into it.
He promised to commence serious sensitization of christains from January to July next year so as to give room for interested christains to plan towards embarking on the spiritual journey.In his words,"we sensitize the people, we tell them the importance of pilgrimage".He added,"members of the Board ensure they live by example, the credibility of the officials must not be compromised".
Bishop Imasuen hinted that by next year his Board would emphasize more on pilgrimage to Israel rather than Rome and might have two groups-- Israel and Rome..
The Clergy was impressed with the good conduct of Edo pilgrims this year as most of them testified of the goodness of God while in the Holy Land. Consequently, " by next year some of them will come back"., he said,
He advised other States Chairmen and Secretaries to look beyond government sponsorship and embark on aggressive sensitization of christains,, church leaders and highly placed individuals in the society.
Edo state under the present administration in the state is zero pilgrimage sponsored state.
The pilgrims have so far visited so many Holy Sites in Galilee and will be visiting the mountain of Temptation, in Jericho, the Dead Sea, inter-alia.
